Khachik Bozoghlian’s sculpture, “The Leaf” exhibited at K.B. Gallery on West 181st Street captures a fallen leaf. The green patina applied to the bronze top surface of the leaf captures the life still in the body, the edges the inevitable death creeping towards its heart.

“I always wanted to do something with nature,” Bozoghlian said. “I make this leaf to show how nature looks beautiful in a dead form.”

Bozoghlian started “The Leaf” five years ago before he started work on his gallery. But it fell to the wayside as he poured his energy into the now year-old exhibition space. Once the gallery was built and open, the original mold he built remained, reminding him of his unfinished work.

Now after five years, “The Leaf,” which measures 28 inches by 20 inches, is finally complete.
